I don't even care about the politics here.

Responsible gun ownership. Background checks.
Seems reasonable.

Damn that’s a good ad.

Now let’s see him do it with a C9 (M249). I haven’t done it in years, but I could do it behind my back too. Now I have too much side to get to my back...

Okay first he has to assemble the M249 behind his back and then pick up a Strat on the table behind him and rip out a guitar solo.

He said he was for background checks and responsible ownership. Most politicians seem to be either “take all the guns” or “guns for all”

Anyone who’s actually handled an M16 based rifle doesn’t find that the least impressive. He just stuck a fully assembled bolt carrier group into an upper than attached it to the lower. Is he going for the sweaty teenager video game crowd? If my daughter can assemble the entire bolt blindfolded does she get his seat? Our country is fucked.

Then challenges his opponent on his ability to stick a BCG into a rifle. God help us.

I don’t know anything about this guy but I think it’s rare for a politician to say they’re pro second amendment and background checks (even if it’s only in relation to terrorists).
Here in Georgia saying you’re for any sort of regulation is an auto death knell. The NRA and any other gun group will make sure that isn’t allowed. It’s sad.
Personally, I’m fine with guns. I don’t think everyone should have them and I don’t think every gun should be available. I think gun safety should be mandatory for everyone. Just because you don’t own a gun doesn’t mean your kid’s friend’s parents don't.

Oh for fuck’s sake, I get so tired of this moronic posturing. The guy’s running for the office of U.S. Senator, not for the office of U.S. Armorer. If you were choosing a candidate to install your water heater or remove your wisdom teeth, would you choose him by the criterion of “who is most skilled at assembling a rifle wearing a blindfold” or would you choose a criterion that had something to do with plumbing or dentistry? Is a senator’s job less important, or requires less skill, than a plumber’s or a dentist’s job?

I had assumed you were being sarcastic, my bad. It is actually pretty reasonable to encourage responsible gun ownership while promoting policies that would actually produce, who would guess it, responsible owners and ownership.

It’s very sad that the statement, “I think background checks should be required for assault rifle based firearms so people on terrorist watch lists can’t buy them” is seen as rare for a conservative politician. We’ve gone full Idiocracy. I mean, that’s a pretty “no shit” statement.

Very cool. But the AR platform is stupid simple.

When someone is voting on gun control, it makes sense they understand firearms. This is just a snazzy way of showing that off. Having people with no practical knowledge on the issues they’re voting on makes no sense. Which is what we have now.

Ok so the assembly is impressive or whatever, but...who gives a h*ck? I realize you can’t give a nuanced policy speech in a shallow 30 second attack ad, but how do his gun-handling skills in any way qualify him to be a senator? Any time I see an ad with a politician doing anything with a gun, all I can hear is them pleading for their political lives with the NRA.
